Southern California Edison

Rice v. Southern California Edison Co., Case No. 94-6353 (JMI) was a class action lawsuit brought by African American employees of Southern California Edison, one of the largest electric utility companies.  Plaintiffs alleged that the company maintained a "glass ceiling" that limited promotional opportunities for African Americans and also that African Americans were paid less than similarly situated white employees.  The case was settled in 1996 for $18.2 million and extensive injunctive relief over a seven year period.
