- On 11/14/11, 2011, the Supreme Court denied a petition for certiorari that was filed by the defendant in McClain v. Lufkin Industries, Inc., a 14 year old race discrimination class action case that Goldstein Demchak has been litigating with Nagocdoches, Texas attorney Timothy B. Garrigan in federal court in Lufkin, Texas. The denial of Lufkin's petition means that the approximately $5.5 million in back pay and pre-judgment interest awarded by the district court after trial and affirmed on appeal now may be distributed to the class.
- The class settlement in Myart v. Autozone was given final approval on 11/2/11. Settlement checks will be mailed out in early 2012.

On 7/19/11, GDBBD, along with Chicago solo practitioners Marni Willenson & Susan Malone filed a class action lawsuit against the City of Chicago challenging the "physical abilities" test the city requires applicants to take before entering the fire academy. The suit alleges that the test discriminates against women and is unlawful because it is not related to job performance or predictive of who will succeed as a firefighter.

On 6/15/11, GDBBD and co-counsel Disability Rights Advocates filed a class action lawsuit in Alameda County Superior Court, alleging that Time Warner Inc., the owner of CNN.com, discriminates against people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing by refusing to caption the on-line videos on its website. The suit is the first of its kind in the country.

- On 4/14/11, GDBBD, with co-counsel, filed a class action in Orange County Superior Court against Young's Market for failing to fully reimburse outside sales representatives for their business travel expenses, including mileage and telephone costs.

On 2/23/11, American Cancer Society (ACS) and American Council of the Blind announced ACS' agreement to design its website in accordance with web accessibility standards for persons with visual impairments. Under the settlement agreement negotiated by GDBBD partner Linda M. Dardarian and co-counsel
Lainey Feingold, ACS has also agreed to make its print materials available in alternative formats.

- On 1/3/11, court-ordered notice was sent to members of a class of IT workers in Garcia v. Oracle. The notice follows the Alameda County Superior Court's finding in favor of the named plaintiffs that their claims for overtime pay and other related claims should proceed to trial on behalf of all similarly situated employees.

CVS Accessible Web Site and Point of Sale Settlement Agreement: GDBBD and co-counsel
Lainey Feingold represented major advocacy groups for the visually impaired in reaching an agreement with CVS/pharmacy to improve service to its customers with visual impairments. CVS will install tactile point of sale devices in every CVS store in the United States and upgrade its website to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) promulgated by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium.
